BMW Diesel Service After the Dealer Has Moved On

We handle the full range of diesel work on BMWs: fuel filters and water separators, DEF and emissions systems, DPF and EGR service, injectors, turbochargers, glow plugs, cooling systems and the transmissions behind them. BMW sold diesels in the U.S. from 2009 to 2018, so every one is now out of its original warranty and into the years when independent service makes the most sense.

For the rest of the car, see our BMW page. Here are the diesel-specific issues we see most.

BMW Diesel Questions

BMW Diesel Service FAQ

Does my BMW diesel need special oil?

Yes. BMW diesels need an oil approved to BMW's diesel specification. We use the correct approved oil for your engine. See oil changes.

Is a BMW diesel worth keeping now that BMW no longer sells them here?

Many owners think so. The engines are strong, and with the emissions system and timing chain looked after, they cover high mileage.

Why does my X5 35d need DEF?

DEF (AdBlue) is injected into the exhaust to reduce NOx emissions. The car warns you before it runs out and limits restarts if it does.
