KRP Lodi is opening soon.
The Smart fortwo is the easiest car in the state to park, and it has a few needs of its own. KRP services gasoline and electric fortwo models across our North Jersey shops.
Smart was a Mercedes-Benz brand in the U.S., selling the two-seat fortwo until 2019, with the final U.S. models electric only. With the brand gone from American showrooms, owners often struggle to find a shop that will take one. We will.
A fortwo is simple in some ways and unusual in others: an automated manual transmission on many gasoline models, different tire sizes front and rear, and a small engine that needs its oil watched. See Mercedes-Benz for its larger relatives.
Four things worth knowing about a fortwo.
Many gasoline fortwos use a single-clutch automated manual. Jerky shifts often need a clutch relearn with a scan tool before anything is replaced.
Related serviceA small engine holds little oil, so a slight consumption or leak matters more. Checking the level between changes is worth the minute it takes.
Related serviceThe electric fortwo still needs brakes, tires, cabin filters, A/C and the 12-volt battery serviced.
Related serviceThe fortwo runs different tire sizes front and rear, so tires cannot be rotated front to back. Alignment and pressure decide how long they last.
Related serviceNot front to back, because the sizes differ. That makes correct pressure and a good alignment more important.
Yes. Many parts come through Mercedes-Benz and the aftermarket. Some body and trim parts take longer to source.
Not necessarily. These transmissions often need the clutch relearned with a scan tool. We test that first.
Most repairs at KRP Automotive are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle. If you pay for a repair at our shop, you shouldn’t have to pay for it again, that’s our promise at all four open New Jersey locations.
