KRP Lodi is opening soon.
From the Escalade to the XT4, XT5 and XT6 crossovers and the CT4 and CT5 sedans, Cadillacs carry a lot of technology. KRP services them all, including the V8 SUVs, the turbo fours and the adaptive suspension and electronics that set them apart.
Underneath, most Cadillacs use the same proven General Motors engines as Chevrolet and GMC: the 6.2-liter V8 in the Escalade, the 3.6-liter V6 and a family of turbocharged fours. The mechanical work is well understood. What is specific to Cadillac is the layer on top: adaptive Magnetic Ride dampers, a lot of control modules and, on many models, a large touchscreen.
That is why we start with a full scan rather than a guess. A symptom in a Cadillac often starts in a different system from the one that complains, and reading every module saves you paying for parts that were never the problem.
Independent Cadillac repair makes sense once the warranty runs out. The V8s and turbo fours are proven GM engines, and the Magnetic Ride, CUE screen and AC repair work that Cadillacs need is diagnosable with the right scan tool. Bring yours to our Hawthorne or Franklin shop for a written estimate before any work.
These are the complaints we hear most from Cadillac owners. None is guaranteed to happen, and each one gets diagnosed properly before we recommend a repair.
| What you notice | What it often points to | Where we start |
|---|---|---|
| Touchscreen stops responding or presses itself | On CUE systems from roughly 2013 to 2017, the screen's touch layer can separate. It is usually the screen, not the radio unit behind it. | Electrical repair |
| Ride feels harsh, floaty, or a suspension message appears | A leaking Magnetic Ride damper or a sensor fault. These are specific parts, and the system needs a scan tool to diagnose. | Steering and suspension |
| Ticking at idle or a misfire on one cylinder of the V8 | Valve lifter or cylinder-deactivation faults on the 6.2-liter V8. | Engine repair |
| Check engine light with a timing code on a V6 | Timing chain stretch on the 3.6 V6, more likely on engines that went long between oil changes. | Check engine light |
| Late, harsh or flared shifts | Fluid condition or shift adaptation on the eight- and ten-speed automatics. | Transmission service |
| Coolant smell or the level keeps dropping | Water pump, thermostat housing or a hose, often plastic parts aging with heat. | Cooling system |
Yes. We diagnose the system with a scan tool, test the dampers and sensors, and replace what has actually failed rather than everything at once.
Follow the oil life monitor, and change it at least once a year even if the monitor has not asked. GM's monitor calculates wear from how the car is driven. We use the oil specification your engine calls for. See our oil change service.
Often it is low battery voltage. Modern Cadillacs have many modules, and a tired battery can make several of them complain at the same time. We test the battery and charging system before chasing anything else.
Most repairs at KRP Automotive are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle. If you pay for a repair at our shop, you shouldn’t have to pay for it again, that’s our promise at all four open New Jersey locations.
