KRP Lodi is opening soon.
The Cummins inline six has powered Dodge and Ram heavy-duty pickups since 1989 and earned a reputation for going the distance. KRP services every generation, from 12-valve trucks to today's 6.7 High Output.
We handle the full range of diesel work on Cummins-powered Rams: fuel filters and water separators, DEF and emissions systems, DPF and EGR service, injectors, turbochargers, glow plugs, cooling systems and the transmissions behind them. The truck in our photo is a Ram 3500 dually in the bay at our Franklin shop. For the rest of the truck, see our Ram page.
Every Cummins generation has a different fuel system, and that decides most of what it needs.
Over 35 years of the same basic engine, with very different fuel systems.
Mechanical injection and famous durability. The well-known dowel pin in the timing cover is worth checking on any truck that has not had it secured.
Electronic VP44 injection pump. A weak lift pump starves the VP44 of fuel, so checking fuel pressure is part of every visit. See diagnostics.
High-pressure common-rail injection. Injectors and clean fuel are the main concerns. See engine repair.
The larger engine arrives with a diesel particulate filter, and DEF and SCR are added on heavy-duty pickups from 2013. Regeneration and DEF faults are the most common complaints. See exhaust system.
More torque, paired with a heavy-duty automatic. Transmission fluid service matters more than ever.
No. The EcoDiesel is a 3.0-liter V6 from a different maker. We service it too; see our diesel pickups page.
A violent shake after a bump, usually from worn steering parts such as the track bar, tie rod ends or ball joints. We inspect the front end and replace what has worn. See steering and suspension.
The truck warns you first, then limits speed or power until the tank is refilled. A DEF warning with a full tank usually means a heater, pump or sensor fault.
Most repairs at KRP Automotive are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle. If you pay for a repair at our shop, you shouldn’t have to pay for it again, that’s our promise at all four open New Jersey locations.
